Petra Nieminen scored in the opening minute and again late in the second period to put Finland ahead by seven, allowing it to coast to an 8-0 victory over Germany on Friday in the bronze-medal game at the women's hockey world championship.

The Finns, who failed to medal last year, finished third for the 12th time in 18 tournaments since the events inception in 1990.
Finland's Noora Raty had to make just 11 saves for a shutout.

The Germans have not earned a medal at the women's world hockey championship, but did have some success in the eight-nation tournament in suburban Detroit. They opened with wins over Sweden and the Czech Republic and advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Russia. Germany lost to the U.S. 11-0 on Thursday night.
