Ghanaian Farmer Jailed 10 Yrs For Possessing 226.G Of Marijuana......

The Koforidua Circuit Court ‘A’ in Ghana,West Africa has jailed a farmer, Naphtali Agyimah, 10 years for possessing 226.20grams of Marijuana.
He was charged on count of possessing Narcotic drugs contrary to section 2(1) of PNDCL 236/90. He however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The convict was arrested on February 24,2016 at about 4pm during Police Operational duty led by Chief Inspector Courage Agbanu, Somanya District station officer to flush out suspected drug dealers in Somanya in the Eastern region.

According to the Prosecutor, Deputy Regional state Attorney, Cyril Boateng Keteku, on reaching Adjikpo, a suburb of Somanya, the convict was spotted in a bush possessing a black bag and upon seeing the Police, attempted to escape but was arrested by the police after a hot chase.

The Prosecutor further told the court that, a search was subsequently conducted and dried leaves confirmed to be Indian Hemp was found in the suspect’s bag together with his Ghanaian Passport.

The convict, during interrogation by Police said, he smokes to boost his strength to work on his farms but later the convict told Police in his caution statement that, even though the bag belongs to him, he has no knowledge about the Narcotic drug found in the bag.

The Convict explained, he attempted to escape because he got frightened by the shout on him by persons whom he did not immediately notice as Police officers.

The Presiding Judge of Koforidua Circuit Court ‘A’, Her Honour Janet Anima Marfo sentenced the convict to 10 years imprisonment on Thursday after prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt guilt of the convict during the trial period.
